#5 Bake or Cook

Bat cookies, spider web cupcakes, marshmallow ghosts and eyeball cake pops are just a few ideas to start you off. These will definitely get those around you into the spirit of Halloween.

However, if you prefer to keep it simple, why not make a tasty Brioche Au Chocolat? It is filled with chocolate chips and it will definitely fit in with the Halloween theme with its dark colors and chocolate – but you won’t have to put too much effort into making a nice batch of these fluffy cupcakes.

If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth or you have had enough candy from your trick-or-treating trip, you can decorate a pizza with spooky toppings or create a creepy-cracked cheese board. Deviled eggs are also a good idea.

Whatever you decide to bake or cook, there are a bunch of easy DIY Halloween ideas that you can create or add your own twist to, so making Halloween themed food would be a great way to celebrate it.

#6 Sew

Have you thought about some fun house decorating ideas for Halloween? You probably already have your eye on different bits and pieces – but do we really have to spend so much money every year, especially with so many easy DIY Halloween ideas that you can create?

If you are interested in saving a bit of money while creating unique decor pieces, why not sew a spooky cushion case? It is much easier to make and you can choose different designs to suit your home. So make sure to check out one of our free classes on digital illustration for beginners which will help you choose a perfect design for your cushion and get down to business by learning how to sew a cushion case for beginners

Once you learn the basics, you can have fun with designs. You can try sewing a spider or a cauldron design onto your pillow to keep the Halloween fun going on for as long as possible. They would also make a great themed gift.

#7 Make a garland

Get all the craft basics such as pipeliners, glitter, tissue paper, metallic pens and googly eyes. Think of what kind of designs you want to add to your garland or banner, is it bats, pumpkins, witches hats or broomsticks? Maybe it’s a bit of everything.

All you need for this craft is card paper, scissors and a piece of string. Make small holes at the top of your designs and thread the string through for your garland. Now you can hang them across your window or around the house to add to the decor.

#8 Craft Your Own Costume!

Instead of spending your money at those expensive costume stores, you can create your own scary costume from scratch. This is highly sustainable as well as a great deal of fun.

You can also create something a little more complex than two holes cut out from an old sheet as your ghost costume. Gather some old clothes or fabric, decorative elements and permanent markers to begin your creation.

If you wish to dress up as a witch for Halloween, you can use an old black skirt, add cobwebs, patchwork and cut small holes in it to make it look worn.

If you wish to dress up as a bat, you can create your own wings from old black t-shirts. Just cut into the desired shape and sew them onto another old t-shirt, you can also add wiring into them for structure.

#9 Spookify your Garden

Search for scary looking flowers with dark colors, such as the Zantedeschia, Tacca Chantrieri (Bat Orchid), Petunia Hybrida or the Iris Germanica.

Other spooky flowers include the Monotropa Uniflora, which is known as the ghost plant for its creepy appearance. The Actaea Pachypoda almost looks like it has eyeballs growing from it.

To add to your scary or dark colored flowers, why not paint some of your plant pots? You can add legs and make one into a spider and paint a pumpkin face onto another!

#10 Calligraphy

To practice your calligraphy and add to the Halloween decor in your house, you can write quotes in your beautiful handwriting

You could write phrases such as ‘trick or treat’, ‘boo’, ‘tis the season to be spooky’ or even a simple ‘happy halloween’. Stick these up around the house or in your window to keep the spooky spirit going.

#11 Paint

Do you enjoy drawing and painting? If you do, Halloween is a perfect opportunity to use your talents. Think of what you want to paint and get started or look for a bit of inspiration online before you start working.

If you are not a confident painter, you can start off by learning the basics from online video classes. There are many short classes available online, so you will not have to spend hours learning how to paint. And you can always try some simple designs in the beginning before you find some more complicated ones.

Halloween Tip – you can even add extra materials to make it seem like the painting is ‘coming to life’.

#12 Make Cocktails

Or ‘potions’, if you will. Get yourself a cauldron (cocktail shaker) and the ingredients for your potion all ready.

You can make a grasshopper cocktail, a witch’s heart, or a frankenlime fizz. You can even take some mixology classes and create your own!
