Guide for Teachers: How to become an online tutor on InfoDepot

Category
InfoDepot is an e-learning platform in which teachers can create video recordings to share their knowledge with learners from all over the world, regardless of place or time.

If you have a skill, any skill that you wish to share with learners (and earn money by sharing), becoming an online tutor on InfoDepot is the right choice for you.

Tutoring as a type of online learning has become increasingly important, especially during these unprecedented times where school life as we know it has changed. Tutoring also allows teachers to monetise their knowledge whilst also ensuring the empowerment and all-important enjoyment of learners.

There are two types of online learning classes offered by InfoDepot

The first is known as a video class, which is a pre-recorded lesson provided by a teacher covering a topic of their choice. Learners can purchase these classes from the InfoDepot website and watch them indefinitely.

The second type of online learning class involves live tutoring calls. This is when an online tutor or teacher will conduct a lesson with a student in real-time over the phone or by video, meaning that they can interact with each other and classes can be directly tailored to suit the needs of the learner. Learners participating in the lesson are charged a rate per minute of the call.

So you want to become an online tutor? Let’s get started.

Set up a price for you online tutoring

Teachers are in charge of setting up a price for their video classes. So once you record and post your video class, you can decide the pricing range for your video class.

There are a couple of tricks you can use to decide how much your online video class will cost. Take into account how much time it took you to record a video, how much knowledge you share with your students and whether that class is a part of a series of video classes. All of these factors can be rather helpful when you are struggling with deciding the price range of your video classes.

Another factor to have in mind are InfoDepot fees. Every video you upload occupies a certain amount of space in the InfoDepot database. Therefore, a platform fee will be charged for each video uploaded by a teacher.

This covers the management costs associated with housing in each video. In addition to this, there is a website commission fee for every video class you sell.

This means that you can post and sell your classes completely free and to take 100% of everything you earn. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Tips, Tricks and Extras for Video Classes

#1 Cover Image

When creating your video, you can choose a cover image which in some way represents the topic you will be tutoring. A cover image is a photo which acts as a visual cue to potential purchasers and helps to entice learners into purchasing your video.

For instance, if you are making a video about “how to bake a pound cake from scratch”, the Cover Image could be a picture of the cake to be baked. You can teach anything that you have some knowledge about, from maths or physics to photography and dance.

#2 Recording Advice

Your video should be no longer than 30 minutes in duration. In this way, you will be able to teach your students something new without forcing them to spend too much time watching your class.

To record, you can use your mobile phone or professional equipment. InfoDepot supports a wide range of recording technology. You should consider that high-quality videos are more likely to receive favorable reviews, possibly encouraging learners to purchase more videos that you create in the future.

#3 Extra Class Materials

You can also add additional features such as documents and workbooks that will complement the content that learners are exposed to in your video. You may post up to 10 documents to accompany each video.

#4 Finding your Previous Videos

To view all your previously recorded videos, go to your Teacher Dashboard and click videos.

How Can I Set up a Live Tutoring Call?

As an alternative method of teaching, you can set up a live tutoring call which allows direct communication and personalized teaching for students.

  • Create your account on InfoDepot as a teacher by clicking on the ‘Start Teaching’ button that appears when you visit the website.
  • Visit your Teacher Dashboard
  • Here you will find a setup page, in which you can start to set up your live tutoring call.

Rate per minute fee for students

The setup page found via the Teacher Dashboard is also the page where you will be able to choose a set price for your call. Learners who want to participate in your live class will be charged a particular price (set by you) per minute of the lesson.

Tips, Tricks and Extras for Live Tutoring Calls

Environment for the Call

You should find a quiet place to conduct your lesson where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Don’t have calls outside and ensure that you are dressed professionally. Where possible, you should use high-quality technological equipment for the call.

A lesson is always better if the teacher and the learner can see each other clearly! Finally, make sure that you have any materials that you will need for the lesson nearby. This may include your lesson plan, worksheets or textbooks to recite from. This will help to ensure that your lesson is conducted as planned with no delays or interruptions.

Calendar scheduling

When setting up Live Tutoring Calls, you can also create an automatic schedule which states the times at which you will be available for calls on InfoDepot. You can find your personal calendar on the setup page. During times when you have scheduled a call, you will appear as ‘online’, and students can place a call to you.

At times when you are not available, you can disable all your calls in your Teacher Dashboard. Students cannot call you at any time other than those which have been explicitly scheduled within your set calendar.

Contact Details

Please ensure that your contact details (telephone number in particular) are correct. You can check this by visiting the settings page on your account. It will be listed under ‘Contact Details’.

This can be edited and changed at any time. Don’t worry, your telephone number will not be shared with others. InfoDepot calls each participant separately and then connects the call.

Finding your Previous Calls

After you have created a call, you can view it within a list on the Teacher Dashboard. Any calls that you make will be listed here for your reference.

Now you are equipped with everything that you need to become an online tutor on InfoDepot. Start your e-teaching journey now!
